Argentina would finish on top of group A. After defeating Uruguay in the round of 16, they would face England in the quarters. A controversial goal in the 51’ minute would break the deadlock. Early in the second half Maradona appeared to use his hand to redirect an errant back pass into England’s goal. Maradona would later go on to say, “it was The Hand of God” Four minutes later in the game he would score again what would be known as “the goal of the century” In a magnificent show of individual talent. Argentina defeated the West Germans in the Final 3-2 thus becoming World Champions for the second time.
